2016 brought positive changes for Constables and Sheriffs in Tennessee.  These changes came in the form of HB 1417 which proposed constable or sheriff fees be raised from $26.00 to $40.00.  It was sponsored by Representative Dan Howell from District 22 which includes Bradley and Polk Counties.

SB 1433 was sponsored by Senator Todd Gardenhire from District 10, which includes Bradley County as well part of Hamilton.  SB1433 was signed by Governor Haslam on March 10, 2016 and will be effective July 1, 2016.

In addition to this change, HB 1467 sponsored by Representative Curtis Johnson from District 68 covering part of Montgamery County, proposed sheriffs and constables collect the same fee for unsuccessful service of process as successful service, provided that the service is attempted in accordance with the laws of the state.  It was accompanied by SB 1488 sponsored by Senator Mark Green out of District 22 covering Stewart, Houston, and Montgomery Counties.

HB 1467 was signed by Governor Haslam the effective date is March 10, 2016.
